65525-61-FORKNER/FORD-JUNE 6, 1916

At the same time that J.C. started large scale land preparation for his orchards, Henry Ford had begun manufacturing motorized tractors. Impressed by the large scale equipment orders of Bullard Lands, Ford drove a “Tin Lizzie” Model T coupe from Los Angeles to Fresno. He and Forkner toured the project, allowing Henry to see first hand how his tractors were used on such a massive scale. J.C. Forkner purchased 48 of the first Fordson tractors to come off Ford’s assembly line, using them with scrapers and discs to prepare the orchard fields. The equipment worked so well that he soon had more than 80 of these rugged machines in use.
